What did you enjoy most about designing this space?

This space was designed for the 2022 Southeastern Designer Showhouse. I love the beautiful window at the far end of the kitchen that fills the room with light. And, what made Mr. Brown London a perfect fit? Mr. Brown’s pieces had the clean modern look and mix of materials that I wanted for this space.

Describe your inspiration for this project

I wanted a colorful happy house that felt like it belonged in Nantucket. The kitchen was designed with periwinkle cabinets so I ran with that and put a fun periwinkle fabric on the Mr. Brown Durrant Dining chairs and then I used a nubby wool on four Cooper lounge changes in the sitting area. I achieved the clean cool look I wanted because of these chairs!

Why do you love Mr. Brown London?

Great looking pieces that are unique and beautifully made.

What do you like about mid-century modern?

I love the clean lines of Mid-century modern furniture. The elegant simplicity makes it an easy choice to mix with traditional furniture to give a room a more transitional look. The smaller scale and feel of so many mid-century modern pieces also work well in a room where you need a lot of seating but don’t want the room to feel too full and heavy.

What design trends do you find most interesting in 2022?

I am thrilled that curved shapes and textures are in. Curved lines make a room feel comfortable and inviting, less formal. I chose the Durrant dining chairs for that reason and put them around an oval dining table because I wanted it to be a cozy gathering place for a large group. I am also happy that colors and prints are in. I love color, but always aim for a quiet use of color so that no one fabric or color overwhelms the room.

What trending styles have your clients been asking for lately?

They want outdoor rooms that look and feel like their interior rooms from the quality and comfort of the seating to the look and feel of the performance fabrics we put on them.
